The Ontario Emergency Medical Services
The Ontario EMS History started in the 1880s where the ambulance service was starting to be given in the city of Toronto and they were nicely establish in some part of Ontario in the start of the 20th century. Until the mid century mark, is was completely normal to see the ambulance services being given as a sideline from funeral homes, taxi companies or towing companies since they were mostly the only ones having supplies that could transport a patient lying down. A 1963 studies place more than 25% of the ambulance providers without any first aid training and the late 60s was the beginning of the ambulance regulations in Ontario. The combination of privately owned services, hospital-based, municipal and OPS services will continue until 1998, when the Local Services Realignment initiative of the provincial government has changed it to become more what we are in contact now.**
